When you have friends who grew up on Avenue D in the 1980s and 1990s telling you that they remember the officer nicknamed "Rambo" who this book is based on it adds a very real dimension to it as you read along. I've spent time in Lillian Wald Houses since the 1980s so it was especially chilling to read about buildings you would frequent daily being the site of grisly murders.
